Why Discover Your Cloud Footprint?
Your cloud presence is a lot more than just enterprise SaaS applications sanctioned and hardened by your IT department. Each business unit and employee need to stay in touch with a variety of other businesses, suppliers, service providers, and partners.
Most industries have been migrating towards web-based portals for better marketing, customer service, and customer acquisition. Financial services, logistics, learning, recruiting, research, and tons of other business services allow and/or require you to join their website and create a profile with tons of data about you and your business. This enables a smooth experience in consuming their services, it is data-driven, always-on, and always accessible.
The least common denominator for all of these online businesses is their registration process. To create the least possible user friction, email and password-based signup is the de facto standard of registrations, that allow zero visibility for network-based tools, and thus your IT and security departments. This is why most of these accounts and services fall into a Shadow IT category, without technical controls or visibility into a very large portion of your digital supply chain, which is what we call Cloud Footprint.
How to get immediate visibility?
Scirge is designed for Shadow IT visibility and monitoring using our browser extension-based architecture. But this requires some time to gather data by monitoring the cloud usage using centrally-managed policies. We needed a different approach to assessing the Shadow IT history, including possible accounts created in the past and applications that may no longer be in use (but might still hold important data and account information).
This is why Scirge Instant Discovery capability was developed. Discovery allows you to assess your historical data via browsing histories and accounts saved in browsers, that we can collect, analyze and correlate. Collecting these endpoint files is done automatically, and no endpoint deployment or user interaction is required. The data is processed immediately at the Central Management Server.
