Data Breach

What Is Data Breach?

Data Breach definition and explanation.

Data Breach is a security incident where critical information or data is exposed or stolen without the knowledge and consent of the system owner. Almost any individual or organization may it be small or large can suffer from a data breach. The stolen or exposed data may contain confidential information such as Personally Identifiable Information (PII), credit card information, passwords, customer data, trade secrets, etc.

In the first quarter of 2020, data breaches in 230 companies were reported. By the end of the year, this figure grew to 1,114. During the first six months of 2020, various Fortune 500 companies became the targets of breaches on a massive scale. According to different security firms, 80% of the data breaches were due to stolen credentials or brute force attacks.
